New Morito opens in Hoxton
On 11th May, a new Morito opened in Hoxton. This is the third restaurant in London from husband-and-wife owners Sam (Samuel) and Sam (Samantha) Clark. This new tapas bar is situated in Hackney Road, not far from Columbia Road Flower Market.
The Clarks' other restaurants
The Clarks' other restaurants are both in Exmouth Market. The first, Moro, opened in 1997 and serves Spanish and North African cuisine. Their next restaurant, Morito, was opened next door in 2010, serving tapas. Fans of these restaurants will notice similarities with the new Hoxton Morito, but they are also promised a new dining experience.
Who’s running the new Morito?
The kitchen of the new Morito is headed up by Moro head chef Marianna Love and owner Samuel Clark. The wine list was put together by consultant sommelier Emily Harman, a former sommelier at the River Café and a wine buyer for the Zetter Group. She has chosen a selection of red, white, rose, orange and sparkling wines, mostly from Spain and Portugal.
The dining experience
The restaurant is decorated in the signature Morito textures and colours, similar to the Exmouth Market restaurants. Plants and handmade pottery add to the Mediterranean feel as well as give a nod to the nearby flower market. The restaurant also incorporates a horseshoe-shaped bar and an open kitchen.
The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with dishes from Spain, Morocco, Crete and Turkey on the menu. Breakfast includes made-to-order Moroccan breads, and later you can choose from an array of small and large dishes or alternatively order family-style plates for everyone at the table.
Reservations are advisable, but counter seats are available for walk-ins. If the restaurant is full, then staff promises to add you to a waiting list and notify you when a table becomes available.
