Enjoy truly fast food at Alton Towers’ Rollercoaster Restaurant
Often at theme parks, meals are quick snacks grabbed at kiosks as you dash from one ride to the next. However, earlier this month at Alton Towers, a restaurant opened with a difference that is bound to delight both old and young alike. At the Rollercoaster Restaurant, your meal is delivered to your table by rollercoaster!
How it works
It sounds like a recipe for disaster: curries, desserts and even drinks whiz along tracks and sometimes even loop the loop before arriving at the tables. But the food is served in metal dishes and secured with straps, and combined with the force of gravity, this ensures that meals arrive safely to diners. Each dish has been rigorously tested, so you can relax and enjoy the spectacle.
The dining experience
The tables are themed around the park’s famous rides, and the walls are decorated with construction drawings that give a fascinating insight into how these attractions were created. After deciding what you want to eat, you place your order using a touch tablet. While you wait for your meal, you will see other people’s dishes speeding along the tracks at up to 20 mph. Each table has its own individual track, so you do not need to worry about getting someone else’s lunch! The rollercoaster has more than 400 metres of steel tracks, and by the timer it reaches your table, it will have dropped 26 feet.
The menu is full of family favourites, including steak, curries, salads and burgers, as well as a selection of deserts. There is also a children’s menu for the younger diners. In the evening, there is a more extensive menu, including the Super Looper (steak and lobster tails). The restaurant remains open after the park closes for hotel guests or for anyone who fancies trying this new dining experience.
