Café Bleu eschews the traditional
country restaurant stereotype in
favour of a thoroughly modern
setting. It’s a lively venue offering
contemporary continental cuisine
rather than traditional English food.
A brigade of five chefs works to produce
absolutely everything on the
menu from sauces to desserts to ice
creams and speciality breads from
scratch, creating a high quality and
extremely welcoming dining experience
from start to finish.
Vegetables are organic and, interestingly,
the salads and garnishes
arrive at Café Bleu from an exclusive
supplier who has a rather novel
approach to ensuring that each is as
fresh as possible – every salad or
garnish portion is individually supplied
in its soil still growing when it
enters the restaurant, picked from
its carton |

and washed immediately
to ensure a ‘from garden to plate’
level of freshness.
A choice of five starters is offered
for evening diners, with a couple of
fish dishes and meat dishes respectively,
and the provision of a soup
and vegetarian offering. There is
also a choice of six main courses,
including fish sourced not just from
Grimsby but the South Coast and
Devonshire regions too, and shellfish
from Scotland. Beef at the
restaurant is particularly noteworthy,
with the pair recently making a pilgrimage
to Aberdeenshire to see
their suppliers’ stock themselves.
Accompanying the finest food is a
bustling ambience with crisp table
linen for the 80 covers and single
tulips juxtaposed with open fireplaces
and an enviable view over
Newark’s Castlegate. |
